This video is my first attempt to concretely marry performance art and documentary. The subject matter of "Prayer," ancestry and ritual, is a divergence from my performance art arising from mental issues. Autobiographical art about delusion, hallucination, etc., seems best expressed by metaphor. Metaphor is completely ineffective if unclear. I am not on solid enough ground about psychosis as a videographer to make all my metaphors clear. Since there is such a universality in traditions and beliefs about ancestry and ritual, it is easier to ground metaphor based on those things, as they pertain to all of us. "Prayer," as such, is a small step toward my ultimate goals as a video artist.
